Back to Church Sunday
New for 2009
Come as you are
On 27th September 2009 we hope that hundreds of people across Derbyshire will be coming back to church.
Dozens of churches across Derby Diocese took part in Back to Church Sunday in 2008 and over 500 people came back.
Simple but not easy
Back to Church Sunday is the simple idea of inviting someone back to church in September, when many people go back to “regular” life. The idea is simple but it is not easy. We need the confidence to invite our friends and neighbours to our church and then to welcome them as they are to join us as we are. We also need to plan for what we invite them to next.
Back to Church Sunday provides an opportunity
• to make links with your communities and to discover how God wants your church to grow
• to examine the welcome of your church
• to assess the quality and depth of worship you offer through your Sunday services
Perhaps you took part last year
• and are encouraged by the effect of Back to Church Sunday on your church. If so, please take part again this year and encourage other churches in your area.
• and are discouraged by a less positive response. If so, please take part again this year. Like many events, Back to Church Sunday needs to be a regular aspect of the church calendar for about five years to make a significant difference. You might be pleasantly surprised.
