About GrapeVine
The GrapeVine concept was developed through the Diocesan Communications Office and the site was built by a Nottingham-based web site company, Melchior Telematics. We hope you enjoy using GrapeVine and we look forward to receiving any comments or thoughts you have over the next few months. up
What is GrapeVine and who is it for?
It is an internal communications tool to help connect church officers and school leaders in this diocese with people who have an official diocesan role. Anyone who is keen to learn more about diocesan support and advice can access this site, whatever their place is in the life of the church, but the site offers specific (but publicly acessible) sections for Clergy, Readers, Church Wardens, Youth Workers, CofE School Headteachers, Teachers & Governors, PCC Secretaries, PCC Treasurers and Parish Magazine Editors. up
Why has GrapeVine been created?
For quite some time it has been particularly difficult to connect diocesan advisers with parishes. Up until now, most news, information, advice and support documents have had to be sent by postal mail, often to just one contact in the parish. GrapeVine will enable more people to access this information freely at any time, provided they have access to the internet.
Because people will be able to see information relevant to themselves and others in the church, they will hopefully become better informed about the extent of diocesan support and advice services available.

What sort of information will I find on GrapeVine?
GrapeVine will contain all sorts of advice and support documents for clergy, church officers and church school leaders, such as policy documents, guidelines on various ecclesiastical topics, official reports and newsletters. You can refer to these documents any time you access the web site, without having to keep a paper copy.
GrapeVine will also link to other areas of the main diocesan web site, www.derby.anglican.org, if relevant information already exists there.
An electronic, concise version of the Diocesan Directory will also be available on GrapeVine. Initially, church and clergy details will be available to all, but we hope more church officers will agree to become part of the database to make it as comprehensive as the paper Directory. For Data Protection reasons, we would introduce a password for accessing details of people other than clergy, and only those who normally have a copy of the Directory will receive the password. PCC Secretaries will be receiving more information about this in 2006. up
What about people who do not have internet access?
There will be many people who do not have a computer, or do not have experience of using the internet, and those people will still have the option of receiving information in the post as before. GrapeVine will not replace postal mailings but supplement them, for the time being. Some people may opt to stop receiving paper in the post from diocesan bodies because they have realised the benefits of using GrapeVine. up
How do I use the site?
Simply click on the button that is relevant to your role - choose from the menu at the top of the page (e.g. Church Warden) and then see what links on that page interest you. If you want to look in the sections for other church officers or school leaders, you are free to do so. Only the Church House and eventually the Diocesan Directory sections will be restricted access for data protection reasons. up
When will I know if something new has gone onto the site?
The content of the site will be constantly updated so you may wish to access it regularly to check if there is anything new for you.
You will notice some documents have the word 'NEW' next to them. This indicates that particular item has been put on the site within the last 30 days. Once the item has been online for more than 30 days the word 'NEW' automatically disappears.
Clergy who have e-mail accounts will be sent a monthly e-mail prompt when a new Clergy Mailing has been placed on the site. People in other roles may also receive a similar e-mail prompt in the future, but the databases and management of those e-mails will take time to establish. up
